PLANT DESTROYED.
BLAZE AT TIMBER MILL. STERN FIGHT BY BRIGADE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Fire which broke out early this morning caused damage estimated at over £1000 at the Western Timber Company's premises at Sydenham. All plant and half the stock were destroyed by the flames, which had secured a verystrong hold by the time the brigade was called out. The heat was so fierce that the galvanised iron walls of the building bent and crumpled while the force of the water tore the iron sheets away from their supports. Although the hoses kept up a continual stream of water, it was not until an hour later that the blaze Was conquered. One tall rack of timber escaped the flames altogether.
