GEAR WASHED AWAY.
CAMPERS' EXPERIENCE.
FLOODING NEAR THAMES
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
THAMES, this day.
As the result of a heavy thunderstorm that passed over Thames between six and seven o'clock last evening, and subsequent rain squalls, flooding occurred 'at Puru, eight miles from Thames along the coast road. Puru Creek rose rapidly just before ten o'clock, sweeping over its banks and flooding camping areas to a depth of several feet.
Campers under canvas had an unpleasant experience. In one camp all the gear was washed out through the back of the tent. Between Puru store and the bridge the water rushed across the road, blocking traffic for some time.
