BURNED DOWN.
OLD MAN'S SHACK.
HENDERSON IDENTITY.
Awakened by smoke and flames, Mr. •Tohn Crowe, an old-ajre pensioner, said to be the oldest resident of Henderson, rushed out of his one-loomed shack about ten o'clock last night and from a short distance watched his home burn to the ground. The few articles of furniture were destroved.
For many years Air. C'rowe, who is over seventy years of ape, had lived ill the shack, built in some scrub in a paddock about 150 yards from the Henderson railway station. He was one of the identities of the district.
When the alarm was received by the volunteer fire brigade the shack was in flames and a;< no water was available in the paddo -lr nothing could be done to save either the sliack or its contents, which were uninsured.
Mr. Crowe was taken tq the house of a sister who resides in Henderson, and to-day the Rev. J. H. Cable and other residents are -showing practical assistance to ease Mr. Crowe's loss.
