RETURNS OF COMPANIES. Rimu (West Coast).—Return to January 3 : A total of 280.150z from 88,421 yards in 199 hours. Electrolytic Zinc (Melbourne). —Production for four weeks ended December 1 : Zinc. 5360 tons; used :it tlif works. 5)0 tons: lend. 275 tons : silver. 29.7500z. West Coast department: Ore treated. 12.419 tons: lead concentrates produced. 027 tons; zinc concentrates produced. 4100 tons. I.oloma (Fiji).—From the treatment of 1700 tons of ore at its mine at Tavun, the company, in its third clean-up. produced 19990z tine gold and 7550z line silver. This represents an increase In gold recovery from 21.18dwt a ten to 23.53dwt a ton on the previous return. Mount Lyell (Tasmania). —For fortnight ended December 22: Mines extraction— | North Mount L.vell. 3683 tons : Crown Lyell. 1118 tons ; West I-yell, 30,286 tons ; I,yell I Comstock, 3431 tons. Reduction works— ! Furnace in blast for full period. 2382 tons refinery anodes produced for current year. Concentrator —Mill operated 332 hours and treated 38.212 tons ore. producing 1835 tons concentrates. Copper refinery—Tank house in operation throughout fortnight. ; 495 tons cathode copper being produced for period. The total for the current year is 28<>0 tons. Barr.vtown (West Coast). —Return for December : 581 ounces for 381 hours and 133.000 yards. Emperor Gold Mines (Fiji).—For the period ended December 25 : Treated 2iou long tons for 10760z of bullion, estimated to contain 9510z of fine gold; head value, S.Sdwt a ton. ' WELLINGTON ALLUVIALS. The management of Wellington Alluvials. ; Limited, reports that the dredge on the j company's areas along the Macquarie River. I near Wellington (New South Wales), has been completed, except for minor adjust--1 ments. It is already Jit work. Three-shift j operations were to be commenced on January 2. I The dredge is designed to treat normally 300,000 cubic yards of overburden and gold- ' bearing wash a month. MANAGER'S REPORT. Alexander Mines (Reefton).- —Report for I December: —No. 6 crosscut : This crosscut was advanced a further 764 ft. making a total distance of 1046ift from the surI face. The country so far has been good . driving country, and dry until the last 10ft. when a small stream of water begnn | to make on the northern side. The crosscut | Is now on its right course to come under ! No. 5 winze according to the surveyor's i calculations, and tlierp is still another : 583ift to be driven before we can rise to I meet the winze. Stoping : Stoping has been j carried out on three faces: a shortage of men did not permit work to be carried out j | on any more faces. A considerable amount ;of filling in the stopes has been done, j I Battery : Battery crushed 195 tons of ore ! for lOloz 13dwt of melted gold. In the ! cyanide department 158 tons of sands were treated for 28oz 2dwt of bullion. Total , estimated value, £873. In addition, 5 tons ] of concentrates were saved, valued at £109.: Note : In estimating the above values gold has been taken at 140/ per fine ounce Work resumed at the mine to-day.
