BRITISH VISITORS.

FIRST APPEARANCE HERE. MATCH AT AUCKLAND GREEN. CENTRE RINKS SUCCESSFUL. The first games of the British Bowling visitors were played on the Auckland green yesterday, against a team of four rinks from the Auckland centre and presidents of local clubs. On the aggregate points Auckland was victorious by 11.

The visitors were welcomed by Messrs. W. J. Truscott (centre president) and H. Luke (Auckland Club president). The captain of the British team, Mr. D. Gardiner, replied. The members of the teams exchanged badges.

Considerable interest was displayed in the play of Mr. Sam. Jones, the runner-up of the Middlesex championship. He is a noted London skip.

They are meeting another representative team of Auckland officials at Carlton this afternoon, and will leave for Waitomo Caves to-morrow morning, going through Taranaki anil Wanganui to Wellington, whence they leave by the Awatea ,for Sydney next Tuesday. There they will be joined by Mr. T. C. Hills, a player' of international repute, who will represent England in the singles of the -'Empire Games, and Mr. K. Weeks, who will play in the pairs. The English rink for the Empire Games will comprise Messrs. Shuttle. Cuthbert and Tappenden, with one still to be chosen from the . touring party. Mr. Clarke will represent Ireland in the singles, and Messrs. Templeton and McAlpine will be the Scottish pair. The New Zealand team of seven will not be chosen until after the ' Australian carnival—rinks, singles, pairs—which will last from January 17 to about the 27th, the Empire Games to commence on February 7. The Auckland contingent, will leave for Sydney next Monday, most of thein by the Aorangi, but a few by the Wanganella, and Mr. Truscott inviteß them all, including the Hamilton rink, to attend at 'Carlton at 2 o'clock that afternoon, as he and his executive wish to tender them a complimentary game as an official farewell, in recognition of their mission as representatives of the Dominion in competition for the championship of the world.
