L. Edmanson, of Wellington, reviewed the | progress of the Ksperanto movement, both within the Dominion and abroad, and referred to the outstanding advancers made duriig the la>t year in the tie Id of education. He regarded the int rodtict ion of Esperanto to approximately two hundred children in tiro New Zealand schools as a really progressive achievement, and hoped that the language would be introduced into further schools this year. The honorary secretary, Mr. W. H. King. in his report. said that the association comprised 131 financial members, including ci'*htcon new members. Twelve clubs were working during the year, including new clubs at Lower Hutt and Bryndwr. The clubs at Xapier and Hamilton, however, had become inactive. Sulistantial progress liad l>een made in the educational field, he continued. During the year c-ducat.iojiaJ institutions at Auckland. Palmerston Xort h, Wellington, Ohristclttirch and Shag Point had permitted the instruction of Esperanto by Esperantist members of their staff, about two hundred children being thus introduced to Esperanto. Up to the close of the financial year t-htv Minister of Education, the Hon. P. Prater, had not given his decision on the petition urging the introduction of Esperanto into public schools, presented by the association in August. 1 !>:>(?. The association's translation test attracted 53 candidates. Tvventv-nine candidates attempted the examination, of whom 25 were successful. For the test held in November. 1037. 55 candidates entered. 23 attempted the examination. and 17 were successful. Ihe following officers were elected: President. Mr. Bertram Potts (Wellington); vice-presidents. Mr. C. W. Brandon (Auckland), Air. E. A. W. Efford (Christchurch), Mr. E. A. Watkin (Wangamii). and Mr. S. G. Hoskin (Waimate); honorary secretary. Mr. W. H. King (Wellington); honorary assistant secretary. Mr. W. McGuigari (Wellington) ; honorary treasurer, Mr. E. C. Jack (Wellington); auditor, Mr. D. L. Irwin (Wellington).
