MOTOR TOURISTS.
CAMPING POPULAR. MORE HOMES ON WHEELS. THERMAL AREAS CONGESTED. That there has been an exceptionally heavy volume of holiday traffic on the highways of the Xorth Island during' the past vacation period is confirmed bv the patrol reports of the Automobile Association (Auckland), obtained from all parts of the Auckland Province. Many districts claim that there has been a record, and the difficulties cxj perienced by the casual tourist who prefers to travel leisurely from one place to another without making definite hotel reservations have been much more acute than in previous years. However, the fine weather has relieved the accommodation problem to some extent, and according to an A.A. official there appear to l>e hundreds of people under canvas this year who previously had not explored this avenue of holiday ■making. Caravans and trailers have been a feature of the vacation period, and in increasing numbers these "homes on wheels" are appearing in the official camps and in all sorts of out-of-tlie-way locations. There does not appear to be any particular district which has been especially favoured by motorists, although Rotorna and the thermal areas have been thronged to overflowing. Almost everywhere where hotel and boardingliouse accommodation has been available full demands have been made by motor tourists. Camps have spread in every district, and repeatedly the remark lias been heard. "What a lot of camps this year!" Visitors to Xorth Auckland have been agreeably surprised to find that many improvements have been carried out at camp sites, and large numbers of motorists have been encouraged to visit Kaitaia. Waipapakauri and the NinetyMile Beach, which this year ie in extremely good order.
