W.E.A. MOVEMENT.
LECTURE PROGRAMME.
VARIETY OF SUBJECTS.
The lecture programme of the W orxers' Educational Association summer school, which is being held at Hunua Falls, was begun on Monday evening with the opening of Mr. H. Winston Rhodes' course on "The Crisis in Literature."
The lecturer said that tbi're were all sorts of symptoms, including unreadable books, unintelligible books, loss of contact lK>t\veen authors and readers, and a crisis in technique and communications.
The morning lectures were opened by Messrs. W. T. G. Airey on the "Rise and Fall of Liberalism" course, and A. S. Hcly on "Trades Unions and Social Change."
Mr. Airey described how new nations emerged from barbarism alongside the phost of the old Roman Empire, which was combined with the organisation of the Church.
The remainder of this cour.*e ie to be taken by Dr. J. C. Beaglehole.
Mr. Holy dealt with the historical aspect of trade union development. Other lecturers in this course will be Messrs. C. E. Price, H. R. Rodwell and W. A. Grcig.
The students are taking full advantage of the fine weather and the camp life is being varied with tramping and bathing.
