DAWN.

(By Pat Haughey, Church Street, Howick.) The grey night looms above us, Old Nature's fast asleep, A little rustling breeze goes by And stirs the calm, still deep. ' But hush! a tiny rustle, A whisper far and wide. A golden light shines in the east, And pink-tipped shadows glide Over fields and meadows And over land and tide.

The sky is tinged with purple, The rosy dawn peeps high, And far away into the sky The happy skylarks fly. The golden sunbeams dance away And the gleaming sun smiles down, And every bwsh and tree is clad In a beautiful gold-green gown, As the calm, sweet breath of the dawn Flows wide o'er village and town.
