BOWLS TITLE.
RINKS CHAMPIONSHIP.
SIX SECTIONAL ROUNDS.
HOW MANY WHX QTTAXJpyj
The hopes of those who expected to' qualify for postrsection play with wins would sink to zero last night whm it became known that the leading rink a four of the six sections already bad aix wins, and that in the other two aectioiu the leading rinks had five wins. Onfc supreme optimism would now regard it u possible for any section to be won or tied with six wins after such a good start it the first two days, but the apparently impossible has happened before and if the Ponsonby rink in section C, playing at Onehunga, get only one win in the thrw remaining rounds that are being p] aj Zj to-day, these worthies will deserve* hearty vote of thanks from the member* of the five or ten rinks who will thereto qualify in the other sections.
However, whether this happens or aot all will doubtless be well satisfied with their three days' play in perfect bowW weather, especially when the tournament committee had no difficulty in selecting six greens that are in excellent order"
A peculiar feature in the unbeatca record of Melville's Devonport rink jg that in three of the six games so far played they tied with their opponent*, and in each case they won the play-off. Another incident worth mentioning in the same section is that Gatland's Onehimn rink were six down when they started the last head, and to the amazement of both sides they got the seven for a win, in drawn, the Ponsonby skip dropping about a foot short with his first bowl and banc about three inches over with his second. This is not a record, for there was once a case where a rink required the whole eight for a win and got them, but thk seems to be a record for the present tosrnament. All who qualify will assemble at Carlton to-morrow morning for post-seetioa play. Additional results Tuesday's play:— SECTION A.—At Ponsonby. Fl'th Round.—McMillan (Remnera) 89 v.
