ROBBERS' RUSE.
Theft of £16,000 Worth of Jewellery. LONDON HOTEL ASSAULT. LONDON", December 21. Diamond and platinum rings valued at £l(i,000 were stolen to-day from a jewellers' representative who had been induced by a daring gang of thieves to bring them to a hotel in the West Eml. Booking a room at the'hotel, three fashionably-dressed and well-spoken men telephoned to a Bond Street firm of jewellers asking tliem to send a representative with a selection of diamond and platinum rings, giving the name of a well-known Continental buyer. The representative arrived with ten rings, and was displaying them when suddenly he was attacked and beaten into an unconscious condition. The men then pocketed nine of the rings, strolled quietly out of the hotel, and stepped into a waiting car. The representative was discovered an hour later. He had received serious head injuries, but had managed to retain one of the rings.
A reward of £1.">00 is being offered for information leading to the apprehension of the thieves.
