The tones of insects, as well as the songs of birds, have been reduced to musical notation. Gardiner, in his "Music of v ture," tells us that the gnat hums in t' note A oai the second space; the death-watch calls, as the owl hoots, 1 in B flat; the buzz of a beehive is in. F; that of the house-fly F in the first space; the bumble-bee in an octave lower; the cockchafer D below the line. 1
