FALL FROM TRAIN.

JOCKEY'S ESCAPE. OPENED THE WRONG DOOR? NIGHT SPENT IN HUT. A jockey, Miehr.pl J. Stewart, of Clnrence Street, Ponsonbv, had a miraculous escape from death last evening when he fell from the Limited express just north of W hangamarino while travelling to Te Awainutu for to-day's races. He left the carriage to go to the lavatory, but apparently opened the wrong door and stopped out of the carriage into space. Ho fell at the side of the line, but rolled clear of the fastmoving express. He then lost consciousness. Some time during the night—he does not know when —he recovered and walked along the line until he came to an empty hut. Tie entered the hut and, finding a bunk, crawled into it and fell asleep. At daybreak he woke up and then wandered along the side of the rails until he met Mr. Dennis Cronin, a railwayman on a jigger, who took him to VVhangamarino, where he had the blood washed off his face. The railway officials then sent him to Mercer where lie made a statement to the police. Admitted to Hospital. His injuries at first appeared to be only a cut over the right eye, abrasions to the face and minor injuries to one hand. This morning Stewart boarded the train at Mercer with the intention of going to the races at Te Awamutu. On the journey he was examined by a doctor who found that he was suffering from shock and concussion. On the advice of the doctor Stewart left the train at Frankton Junction, and was later admitted to the Hamilton Hospital.

A report irom Hamilton this afternoon stated that Stewart's injuries are not regarded as serious.
