WHEEL AND TRACK NOTES.

A STRONG TEAM. The southern trainer M. B. Edwards has a strong team entered for the Ashburton Trotting Club's meeting to be held over the holidays, and he is likely to collect more than expenses from the trip. Among the entries from his stable are Princess Beverley, Two's Loose, Francisco, Philario, Gamble, Ace High, Frisco Boy and Frisco Lady. This mentor can usually be relied upon to win a race or two at most of the meetings in the south, and this fixture does not look like proving any exception to the rule. FINE SADDLE PERFORMER. By his easy victory in the Electric Handicap at New Brighton recently Waipahi has advanced his claim to be recognised as one of the best pacers under saddle in the Dominion. He attracted attention to his outstanding ability when he registered 2.43 4-5 to win a mile and a quarter race at Winton last year. It was a 3.5 class, and Waipahi began from 48yds behind. Since then he has competed in many races, but he has only succeeded in winning one harness event. His recent success marked hig fourth win in saddle, and it is obvious from that performance that he will soon win again. Waipahi does not pace with the same confidence in harness that he does in saddle. He was bred in Southland j and is owned by Mr. W. McDonald, who enjoyed considerable success with that ] good horse Satin King.
