TOP PRICE AT CHRISTCHURCH. Top price of 20V4d for four bales of super half-bred ewe wool sold on behalf of J. F. Scott. Mount Pleasant, was paid at the Christchurch wool sale on Decemo° r P' r °f\ orts tlle Christchurch "StarSun." This was purchased by a local mill, the Kaiapoi Woollen Manufacturing Company, Limited. CONDITIONS IN YORKSHIRE. Reviewing the position of the wool market as at December 1 X Messrs. Winehcombe, Carson, Limited, reported:— "Yorkshire, for a considerable period very hesitant in purchasing, haa of late bought wool in larger quantities in all markets. The decided falling off in exports of tops to China has been, one o£ the chief causes of English uneasiness. It is certainly a lose, as Bradford shipped 10,000,0001b to China in a year, but it is only a relatively small portion of Yorkshire's business. Exports of woollen and worsted fabrics from Great Britain this year have been larger than twelve months previously. Within the British Isles conditions for business in textiles are favourable. The great manufacturing industries of the United Kingdom are well employed. A Leeds report states that for the period of the year more overtime was being worked in the clothing factories than for several years. As a whole, therefore, the English establishments have no cause to be depressed. Any slowing up in salee of goods hats been due to the fear that prices for the raw material would fall further."
