AUCKLAND MAORI GROUP

CONCLUSION OF SESSION

The Auckland Maori group of tlic .New Education Fellowship concluded its work for ]ft. - 37 by an enjoyable evening held at the residence of the acting secretary. Mrs. E. D. M. Doust, Epson,. Dr. \V. S. Dale, group leader, presided. Mrs. Hurst, convener, presented a resume of group activities and of recent legislatory and other changes improving the economic aud political status of the Maori, notably the revised Parliamentary election procedure introduced by the Hon. H. G. R. Mason. Correspondence from country members was read and discussed.

Dr. _ Dale led a discussion on the stability of the Maori in modern society and of the conditioning of cultural progress of child and adult bv economic conditions. Mrs. H. M. Colwill stressed the importance of special schemes for the education of the Maori woman and explained the benefits of the Maori women's institutes in providing social and cultural contacts in isolated communities and in encouraging the women members to ms.ke use of their improved status.

Mr. C. L. Gillies, hon. secretary of the Auckland Kew Education Fellowship, a short talk on the newest trends of N.E.F. work as shown by literature just received from England. A vote of thanks was tendered to Mrs. E. D. M. Doust for arranging such a pleasant meeting. Supper concluded the evening.
