FRUIT SELLS WELL DEMAND FOR STRAWBERRIES. HIGHER PRICES FOR PEAS. Most lines of fruit sold well to-day at the City Markets and supplies were plentiful. Best quality apples, peats, apricots, loganberries and tomatoes were in good demand and there was a keen inquiry for strawberries. The market is well supplied with oranges at present. Large quantities of plums are coming forward, meeting with a fair demand, and peaches and apricots are also increasing ;n supply. Lemons and grapefruit are in fair supply. Fruit.—Apples: Dougherty, 9/ to 11/6 per case; Stunner, 10/0 to 13/. Pears: Winter Coles and Winter Nelis, 9/ to 13 0 per case. Tomatoes: Outdoor, extra choice, 8d to B%d per lb: others, 3d to Od; hothouse, 6d to l/lVid. Oranges: Australian, 20/ to 27/ per case. Crapefruit: New Zealand, extra choice, 7/ to 11/6 per case. Lemons: Choice cured, 11/ to 17/ per case. Bananas: Ripe, 20/ to 28/ per case. Grapes: California!!, red, 26/ per chest. Peaches: 4/ to 6 6 per chest; 4/6 to 8/6 per crate, according to sample. Plums: Christmas, 3/6 to 4 6 per case; Sharps, 2/6 to 4/; others, dessert, 4/ to 5/6. Apricots: Choice, up to 17/0 per case; others, 6/ to 12/. Strawberries: Captain Cook, extra choice, 1/4 to 1/5 per chip; others, 1/2 to 1/3; Marguerite, extra choice, 1/2 to l/3'/£; others, lid to 1/1. Loganberries, BMi to IOVi per chip; gooseberries, 4'6 to 5/6 per case; red currants, 4/ to 4 6 per bucket; cherrios, e::tra choice, 10/6 per case; others. 6/ to 7/6; mushrooms, 1/6 to 2/ per lb; coconuts, 15/ per sack. Potatoes Cheaper. Prices of cabbages and cauliflowers were firmer owing to smaller quantities coming forward to-day. Peas and beans were in heavy supply and peas advanced in price, while large quantities of lettuce sold at late rates. New season's Red Warren pumpkins were otx the market and those of good colour sold well. There was no change in the prices of marrows and cucumbers, very heavy quantities being offered. Large supplies of potatoes sold at lower rates, and kumaras and onions had little demand. Vegetables.—Asparagus, 4d to 6d per bundle; beet, (id to 9d per dozen; carrots, 9d to 1/6 per dozen; cauliflowers, 4/ to 8/ per sack; cabbages, 3/ to 7/6 per sack; cabbages, on benches, 1/ to If per dozen; cucumbers, 1/6 to 5/ per dozen; French beans, 4/ to 7/ per bag; stringless beans, 6/6 to 14/ per bag: green peas, 2 / to 5/ per bag; kumaras. Island, 10/ to 12'6 per cwt; kumaras, Tauranga, 2/ to 3/ per bag; leeks, 3d to 6d per bundle; lettuce, 1/ to 3/6 per case: marrows, 2/ to 5/ per dozen; water melons, 1/6 to 3/ each; onions, new season's, 2/6 to 3/6 per bag; Canadian, 9/ to 11/ per cental; potatoes, new. Xo. 1, 4/ t-o 6'6 per bag; Xo. 2. 1/6 to 3/ per bag; pumpkins, new season's, 2d to 3d per lb; Island, per lb; parsnips, 1/6 to 1/9 per dozen: radish. 6d to 9d per dozen; rhubarb, 1/ to 1/6 per dozen; spinach. 6d to 1/ per dozen: spring onions, 6d to 1/ per bundle: swedes. 2'6 to 4/ per bag; turnips, 6d to 9d per dozen. Butter and Ens. Egg prices were unchanged as follows:-— Hen: First grade, 1/6% per dozen; B. 1/5V4: C, l/O'ji. Duck: First grade, 1/5 M per dozen; B, 1/4V4: C, 1/1%. x Farmers' Butter.—lOd to 1/OVi per lb. Cut Flowers.-—There was a considerably improved demand to-day for flowers, the supply being slightly smaller. Poultry. At to-day's auctions the supply of. poultry was very heavy and the demand was fair. The prices paid remained unaltered except for cockerels, which dropped. Selling rates were as follow:— Cockerels, heavy .breeds, prime. 2/ to 3 '6 each; not prime. 1/6 to 2'6; lifrlit breeds, prime, 2/ to 3/; not prime, 16 to 2 ; fat roosters, heavy breeds, prime, 2/6 to 3,6; light breeds, 2/ up; fat hens, heavy breeds, 2/6 to 3/6; light breeds, 1 6 to 2 6; pullets, heavy breeds, best, 3. 6 to 6 ; smaller, 3/ up: light breeds, best, 3.6 to 4/6; smaller, 2/ up; drakes, young, prime, 2/ to 3,3; smaller, 2/ up; old. 2' up; ducks, young. 2/ to 2/9: old, 2/ up: geese. 6/ to 7/; turkey hens. 8/ to 12/; gobblers. 15/ up; cockerel chicks, heavy breeds, (id to 1/6; light breeds, 3d to ]/3.
