(Fj Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLJXGTON, Thursday. According to a statement 'by tlie Minister of Mines, the Hon. P. C. Webb, j to-day, numerous inquiries with regard to licenses to prospect for oil ha\e been received, and it is certain that New Zealand will be prospected in a way that will determine definitely whether there is oil in payable quantities or not The Act comes into forte on January 1, and the next big job "ill be the regulations, which will be undertaken early in the New Year.
