ANGLICAN POST.

BISHOP OF WAIAPU.

NEW CHURCH PROCESSES.

SUBMISSION TO BISHOPS.

Under a now canon of the Anglican Church now processes will have to be brought into operation before the next Bishop of Waiapu can be appointed in succession to the late Bishop Williams, who died 011 December 7.

When the usual procedure of appointment has been carried out by the Primate of Xew Zealand, Archbishop Averill, the name of the clergyman nominated for the position must be submitted for consideration to a bench of bishops, if the primate wishes, however, the bench of bishops need not be called together, in which case the name will be submitted to the individual bi-diops bv mail.

If the bench of bishops approves by word of mouth, or in writing, the archbishop will submit the name to the standing committees of the seven dioceses in the Dominion. From these standing committees a majority of consent must be obtained.

Appi oval of the nominee having been obtained from both these sources, it will then be the duty of the primate to submit the offer to the man concerned, and he will have the right to accept or refuse the appointment.

The services of the Bishop of Waiapu are being performed at present by Dean Brocklehurst and the Episcopal Acts by Bishop Bennett, acting under the commission of Archbishop Averill.

Something of a record will be created when Archbishop Averill consecrates the new Bishop of Waiapti in tlie cathedral at Napier, This ceremony, which will probably be held in the middle of next year, will mark the fourth time that the present archbishop has a bishop in the Napier cathedral. The tliree others consecrated were Bishop Sedge wick. Bishop Bennett, of Aotearoa, and the late Bishop Williams.

Archbishop Averill has served as Bishop of Waiapu himself. He held that office from 1910 to 1014, when he was appointed Bishop of Auckland and was succeeded by Bishop Sedgewick.
