MINING ROYALTIES.
Over 120 Amendments to Bill Before Commons. OPPOSITION'S OBJECTIVE. British Official Wireless. (Received 1.30 p.m.) RUGBY, December 9. The Government bill to secure unification of mining royalties under State control by payment of £<>b\4">o,ooo as compensation to the royalty owners was considered further by the House of Commons, and progress was made with some of the 120 odd amendments.
The Labour Opposition tabled a series of amendments with the object of reducing the amount to £44,.V>0,000 with a view to safeguarding the wage standards of mine workers and securing that part of the surplus revenue should be used as the nucleus of a pension fund for mine workers and protecting miners who may lose their cmploytiMMit as a result of the scheme.
