The Government bill to secure unification of mining royalties under State control by payment of £<>b\4">o,ooo as compensation to the royalty owners was considered further by the House of Commons, and progress was made with some of the 120 odd amendments.

The Labour Opposition tabled a series of amendments with the object of reducing the amount to £44,.V>0,000 with a view to safeguarding the wage standards of mine workers and securing that part of the surplus revenue should be used as the nucleus of a pension fund for mine workers and protecting miners who may lose their cmploytiMMit as a result of the scheme.
