ST. JOHN AMBULANCE
BRIGADE.
ACTIVITIES OF THE MONTH
During tlic past month the Auckland C.idet Ambulance have been very busy with their activities. First and moat important was the inspection by the Chief Commissioner, Lieutenant-Colonel (I. Ha relay, 0.R.K.. Y.D. The inspection was held in tlie Welleslev Street School grounds, and a very good muster rallied fi»r this occasion. In Colonel Barclay's address he especially commented on the great advancement made by the eadet divisions of the brigade. All the cadcts looked very smart in the spick and span uniforms.
Through the courtesy of the Central Fire Station a specially selected-squad of J0 cadets were given instruction in lire fighting bv Mr. Ander, the third officer. After Mr. Ander's valuable lectures the cadets were set an examination, and all passed, gaining an extra certificate, Another course was taken by the cadets, which was knowledge of the order, the instructor being Cadet
Officer N. L. Wright. This subject is rather a difficult one on account of the length of it, which deals with the history of St. John, and the first date mentioned being about 1013, and dealing with all the past masters and grand masters right up to the present time. Tliis is indeed a most interesting study r for all connected with St. John.
A class of probationer cadets is now studying first-aid in a really hard and earnest way under the supervision of Cadet Superintendent A. L. McCarthy. With tile energy that these boys are putting into their work they should prove themselves to be very good and useful cadets when they obtain their first-aid certificates and carry out the work of St. John in a real and proper way. The Auckland Cadet Ambulance Division were very honoured to have a Grand Prior's badge presented to Cadet Sergeant H. 11. Johnson, who had succeeded in obtaining 12 extra subjects apart from first-aid. The Orand Prior's badge ha a special honour, as it is presented by His Royal Highness the Duke of Connaught, K. 0., who is the Grand Prior of the order. To each cadet who studies an extra subject and passes the examination a really worth while certificate is presented certifying that he has passed that particular subject.
