HORTHCOTE DOMINICAN NUNS.
The sale of work in aid of the Dominican nuns at Northcote was concluded on Saturday evening, and was a successful effort. The sisters were in charge of tho various stalls, and were assisted by ladies of th(» parish, as follows: Fancy and novelty stall, Mesdames, A. J. Lennon and W. Jackson; produce, Mesdames J. Horan and T. Boyd; sweets. Misses Peace Clark, Marion Clark and Kathleen Wrightson; ice cream. Misses Betty Horan and Owen Sexton; refreshments. Mesdames Brown, Brandon and McHaigh.
The sale was opened in St. Mary's Dominican Convent School on Friday night by Bishop Liston, wlio was accompanied by the parish priest, the Rev. Father M. Hunt. A fairy like effect was given at night by the coloured lighting Bcheme. An entertainment was provided by the pupils, comprising choruses by the seniors and juniors; violin quartet, by Mi-se* Xellie Ryan. Dalcie Kaddy, Masters Hi Hie Stewart and Charlie Stack; pianoforte duet, by Masters Oraham and Russell Jackson; violin solos, by Miss Xellie Ryan; and recitations by Miss Sliirlev Sampson and Master Peter Hollows.
Bishop Lieton spoke in terfes of high praise of the singing of the pupils and ihe'playing of the children in the instrumental items, as well as the. good elocutionary numbers. At the close of the function on Saturday night, the Rev. Mother Superior and the sisters conveyed their gratitude to all who had assisted in the successful effort.
