WORK STOPPED.
GIRL EMPLOYEES IN MILLS.
DISPUTE AT OXEHUNGA. Twenty-seven girk employed on pieceratcs in the weaving department of Onehunga Woollen Mills. Ltd., ceased work yesterday after a meeting in the lunch hour. They were dissatisfied at being' changed to diffe-ent looms through shorter working hours. It was claimed by the company that the terms of the award had been faithfully observed. The girls had given no reason to the management for walking out. The secretary of the union. Mr. T. Long, is away from Auckland for the week-end. The girls were to hold a meeting to-day to formulate demands. It i* expected that a conference will be arranged on Monday between, the union and the management.
The girl* claimed that although they were on piecework, they were entitled to a minimum of £2 a week. Through the operation of the shorter hours they would not always earn £2 a week on piece rates. There were several other matters also tinder dispute.
