Victory for Lady Meath.

The Melrose Maiden race, with which the programme opened, provided a very line finish, 1 hero being only a few inches between the three placed horses. The favourite, Lady Meath, was always in the picture nnd drew out in the straight, holding on to stall off a challenge from Ivy Willonyx, who came from n good way hnck. Pasture showed a lot of speed, bring the leader at the. turn, hut she weakened a shade over the hist hit into third place. Quilp. who whs drawn on tlio outside, also ran a good race, being right up at the turn and finished a good fourth. The start was a Rood one, Viraoious, Little Idea and Pasture being the' tlrst to show out. Little Idea then hit the front, only to be superseded by Pasture, who was followed across the top by Lady Meath. Little Idea, Trevace, Quilp, Tui Nui md Mundane. Pasture was still in the van at the home turn from Lady Meath, Juilp, Lnpklarin.ii, Tui Nui and Tre'acc. Lady Meath then took charge and itayed on to beat Ivy Willonyx by a hort neck, with Pasture a nose away. "hen came Quilp, Tui Nui, Mundane, apidarian, riay On, Tiverton and Jolly lance. Th« Hick Sprint. Miss Te Koura, who was drawn wide ut in the Spring Handicap, ran to the cmt before a furlong had been overnd, and just hung on to win narnwly from Bronzette, "who was always veil placed. Jack Tar, the favourite, vlio was having <Bia first race for soma itnc, ran fairly. Gay Egypt, Royal V'anls, Bronzette, Gold Vaals and Miss To Koura were the first to show out, but Miss Te Koura soon ran to the front and passing the four furlong post was well clear of Royal Vaals, Bronzette. Ellnnui, Gold Vaals and Solo Song. Miss To Koura still had a good lead at the homo turn from Royal Vaals and ftrorux'tte, Kllaiiui, Solo Song and Jack Tar also being prominent. Bronzette put in a good run in the straight but failed to reach Miss Te Koura by a neck, with Royal Vaals only a head away third. Gold Vaals, Jack Tar, Torch, Solo Song, Lady Defoe and Ellaniil were next to finish, Topweight Scores. Tudor put up a good performance to win the Tiri Hurdles. He was never further back tMon third once, the field settled down, and, taking charge across the top, he stayed on to score decisively. Trackman, the favourite, was in front till about five furlongs from home, where he was headed, eventually finishing third. Sandrift made a good showing, and it should not bo long before she is on the winning list. Blue Tiger tailed the field for most of the way. He commenced; to move up between the four and three-furlong postn, but came to grief at the second to last fence. Sandrift, Lap Up, Trackman and Thespis wore the first to show out, and passing the stands Trackman was in charge from Thespis, Tudor, Sandrift, Roxy and Lap Up, with Blue Tiger well back lust. Along the back Trackman was about a length in front of Thespis, with Tudor a couple of lengths away, while Sandrift was a further four lengths back, the others being well behind. Tudor ran to the front crossing the top from Trackman and Thespis, the last-named pair being well clear of Sandrift. Blue Tiger, Lap Up and Roxy. Blue Tiger came to grief at the fence by the three-furlong post, and entering the straight there was not much between Tudor and Sandrift, Trackman being a couplo of lengths further back, with a similar interval to Thespis, while Roxy was a further Iff lengths back. Once over the final obstacle Tudor did l>cst to win by two lengths from Sandrift. with Trackman a length and a half further back. Then came Thespis, while Roxy was about 20 lengths away. In the run home Dark Shadow prevailed in a desperate finish with Knight of Australia, defeating the latter by a nose, with Royal Appellant only half n head away third.
