SOUTHDOWN BLAZE.

STORAGE SHED DESTROYED. HARD TASK FOR BRIGADES. Damage estimated at approximately £250 was done when fire broke out in a storage shed at the Auckland Farmers' Freezing Company's works at Southdown shortly before eight o'clock last night. The shed, which was constructed of corrugated iron with wooden framing, and its contents, principally paint and oil. were completely destroyed.

The call was answered by engines from the Ellerslie, Onehunga and Mt. Wellington stations. The night watchman, assisted hy some of the night staff, brought the works' fire fighting equipment into action before the brigades arrived, but was not able to quell the flames owing to the inflammable nature of the contents of the shed. This made the task difficult for the firemen also, and the shed was completely gutted.
