Pearee was fined in default 30 days' imprisonment, by Air. E. C. Levve_v, S.M. Deteetive-Sergeant Holmes sr.id that the farm manager at the Paparim prison saw a trnek outside the prison grounds, nnd his Hiispieions were aroused. The manager and a warder aeeostcd Pearee, who said lie had got lost in trie dark, as he was not familiar with the neighbourhood. He admitted that h° stole a number of sheaves. "It is strange that he got 10.-t, as he is well known lit the prison," concluded the deteeti ve-«iergeant. Asked if he had anything to say, Pearee replied that if '.t had been anyone else, nothing would have been said. In imposing sentence, the magistrate said Pearee apparently knew the inside of the neighbourhood well.
