COLLEGIATE ROWING.
EIGHT OAR INNOVATION. j The first inter-schools' rowing I contest in Auckland will take place on tho Tamaki Drive course to-morrow between representa- | tires of Sacred Heart College and Mount Albert Grammar School. The event is timed to start at 3 p.m. It will be the first of its kind in the Dominion—an eightoared contest between secondary schools. The Sacred Heart College boys have been in serious training for a number of weeks and their work in the boat has shown a steady improvement. The college crew has been fortunate to have the coaching services of Mr. Vince Corbett, who has displayed enthusiasm in the preparation of the crew. Given a fine afternoon, the public should have the opportunity of witnessing a stirring race, which, it is hoped, will be the forerunner of many contests, with all the ' Auckland secondary schools competing. While the Richmond Road boys have been practising at the Waitemata Club, Mount Albert has had the use of the West End Club's plant. Their ' mentor has been Mr. L. E. ! Brooker, a well-known University rower, whose sporting ! instinct no doubt came from 'his father, Mr. F. J. Brooker, a Canterburv forward in the 1897 All Blacks in Australia.
