TWO YEARS' PROBATION.
THEFT AC A SERVANT. ' ■ . (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON", Thursday. Rodney Devereaux Makgill (32) was admitted to two years' probation by Mr. Justice Callan in the Supreme Cfourt to-day on a charge of theft as a Government servant. He had pleaded guilty. His Honor said that although the accused abused his position of trust he succumbed only once. He took some cattle belonging to the Government and sold them. Although the offence was undetected for a year, Makgill committed no further offence, which was in his favour. He had had much expense through family illness and his gambling was not excessive. I Accused was ordered to pay the costs of the prosecution. '
