DIVER'S ORDEAL.
ENCOUNTERED SHARK CAME UP ON AIR PIPE. LIFE-LINE WAS BROKEN. (Special.—By Air Mail.) LONDON, October 31. Mr. C. A. Chard, diver-Mayor of Falmotitli, told of his encounter with a giant shark in St. Ives Bay.
For several minutes he wae dragged along by the shark, which bit through his life-lino.
"I had. been under water two or three hours," he said, "when the big fish went past me like a flash. The life-line was carried along for 15 to 20 yards. "I was dragged with it at high speed. Then the fish suddenly stopped, came back part way and began struggling. It seemed to be entangled with the lifc-iinc. "After being dragged about for two or three minutes, which seemed to mu like two or three hours, I tried to signal to the men in a boat, and found that the life-line had parted about eight feet above my head. "There was a jagged break in the rope which looked as if it had been bi'ten through by the monster's teeth. "I came up as quickly as, I could on the air pipe. "The men in the boat above me gave a great cheer when I appeared above the surface. I am etill feeling a bit shaky."
