MEDICAL APPOINTMENT.

Advising the Auckland Hospital Board regarding the appointment of a deputyjTiedicnl superintendent for the Auckland Hoepital, Sir Frederick Menzies, supervisor of the London County Council's hospital eyetem, recommended that the beet course to adopt was to fill the position from candidates resident in Xew. Zealand. ' Mr. E. H. Potter urged that this cnuree wa* the right on«. It had been followed in the peat with success. Dr. Maguire, who had formerly been medical superintendent of the Auckland Hoepital, had been a *enior medical officer of the hospital when that appointment was made. Miss Nuteey, matron of the hoepital, was a New Zealand-trained iniree, and Mr. Sommerville had banking and accountancy experience in New Zealand when he was appointed secretary to the board. Dr. .T. P. Hastings agreed with tlie •views expressed by Mr. Potter.
