THAMES BUSINESS MEN.

REDUCED IHTEREST BATES. (By Telegraph—Own Correspondent.) THAMES, this day. The council of the Thames Chamber of Commerce was addressed yesterday by Mr. J. Thorn, M.P., on many matters affecting the future welfare of the town and district, including the KauaerangaTairua road, .the carrying of electricity to Thames Coast, representation on the Thames Valley Power Board, the Fisheries Commiseion, the borough water supply, and aerodrome improvements. A letter from the Minister of Internal Affairs advised that the present arrangement in regard to commissioner control in Thames expired in May, 1938, that the reduction in interest to 4£ per cent in respect to Thames Harbour Board debentures expired in April, 1938, and that the reduction in interest by onethird on Thames borough debentures expired in July, 1938. The letter added that special arrangements in regard to these matters would necessitate legislation which should be dealt with this eeeoiou. The council was therefore invited to send representatives to a conference to be held on November 22.

The president, Mr. S. Hetherington, considered that the matter was of such grave importance that the council should be represented at the conference.

It was decided that the president and Mr. C. J. Garland should attend the conference.
