The ''Chronicle" understands that tl.e Canadian-Australian Line wiil call at San Franciei-o in tho New Year, competing with the Mat son Line in llie trans-Pacific service. Local officials are not aware of any move as indicated by the above cable. The schedule of eailinge lias been compiled till October of next year, and do not include a call at any American coast port.
