He contends tha when a girl has spent money on a trous seau, or has relinquished employment ii expectation of marriage, or has beei engaged for six or seven years, she sua tains damage if the marriage does no eventuate, but when a man, suddenl; infatuated, becomes engaged in a fe\ weeks, and finds soon afterwards tha it is a mistake and better to part, h should be protected from victimisatioi preventing subsequent divorce and pos sible trouble to the parents on bot sides. No steps have been taken to amen breach of promise legislation since 187!
