Judge Castigates Government
Whip in Alberta.
GIVEN THREE MONTHS' GAOL. (Received 10 a.m.) EDMONTON, November 14. A sentence of three months' imprisonment was imposed on Joseph Unwin, Alberta Social Credit Government Whip, who had been found guilty of criminal libel in connection with the publication of a pamphlet in which he described nine prominent opponents of Mr. William Aberhart, Premier, as "bankers' toadies."
Mr. Justice Ives warned Unwin that he "had better taken a personal stocktaking," and added that his constituents were paying for the best public service but had been betrayed.
