IZM'S BROADCASTS.
I A# ft is written "Let not your good be evil spoken of," 1 think the remarks of the Hon. F. Jones in the House of Representatives, reported in your issue of November 11, call for same comment from those concerned. I cannot discuss the "illegal" payment from a technical standpoint, but it does seem unfair to those persons and organisations who wholeheartedly assisted a once-popular station to [remain on the air when it was a private concern by financial assistance and donations. In addition to this, there was the time and expense of travel, loan of records, preparation of discussions on popular topics and general items freely and voluntarily given which helped to make the station -«o acceptable to the listener. As to the desire of the public for more serious subjects. I have received letters with many hundreds of names of those desiring a continuance of one of the half-hour cessions. I am sure that the other sessions were also appreciated by a large section of listeners. Of course I quite realise that those who advertise poods and secure sales should pay: but why class those who caunot possibly receive pecuniary benefit and rendered service for the good or enjoyment of others as 'illegal"! Rather should they be rewarded for their service in building up the broadcasting revenue by being allowed to continue the good work, if only for a limited period. JAMES E. A. GATES.
