OLD CONTEMPTIBLES.
ARMISTICE SERVICE.
HELD AT ST. MATTHEW'S.
The annual Armistice service arranged by the Old Contemptibles' Association was held yesterday afternoon in St. Matthew's Church. Members of numerous associations of ex-servicemen and women attended.
Those taking part assembled at Queen's wharf and marched under the command of Major-General Sir George Richardson to the church. Besides the Old Con tern ptibles' Association, the parade included members of the British Legion, the Returned Soldiers' Association, the New Zealand Territorial Forces, the Ex-Naval Men's Association, the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, the Company of Master Mariners, the Legion of Frontiersmen, Scottish Regiments, Nursing Divisions and other wartime organisations. The Band of the First Battalion, Auckland Regiment, ahd the Waterside Workers' Union Silver Band also took part in the parade.
The officiating chaplains were the Revs. O. V. Gerard, J. Hiddlestone, R. Ferguson Fish, H. K. Vickery and R. R. B. Falcon. About 600 people attended. The address wa« given by. Mr. Gerard, who urged that Armistice Day should be observed as a reality and not as a mere formality. The "Last Post" and the "Reveille" were sounded and a funeral march was played on the organ.
