WORKERS' HOUSES.
POWER BOARD EMPLOYEES.
LEGISLATION IS PLANNED. Advioe lias been received by the Electric Power Boards and Supply Authorities' Association from the Parliamentary Under-Secretary in charge of Housing, Mr. J. A. Lee, that legislation will shortly be pastted enabling power boards to erect houses for their employees with 3 per cent money without a previous poll of the ratepayers. This proposal was communicated today to a meeting of the Waitemata Electric Power Board. The association is negotiating with the object of having made available to the board plans and specifications from the Housing Department.
"This will now enable you immediately to proceed with any schemes you may have in mind for the housing of your employees on the most favourable basis possible at this time and it is suggested that you may thus be enabled to house servicemen at points most suitable for the economic working of your area," the communication added.
The Chairman, Mr. W. R. T. Laighton: You will notice that they propose to allow us cheaper money. It will be very handy for the board later on if it goes through.
