TIMARU, this day,

Described as a "silver better," Arthur McKenzie, married (47), appeared before Mr. -H. Morgan, S.M.. in the Timaru Magistrate's Court this morning and pleaded guilty to a charge of carrying on the business of a bookmaker at Timaru. He was fined £15 and given a fortnight in which to pay.

The police said it was his first offence. It was understood that McKenzie, who was operating in a small way, was acting as an agent for a man operating on a large scale.
