(By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Friday.,

A suggestion that local bodies and others who were interested in bird life might be able to plant more flowering shrubs wu made by Mr. J. G. Coates (National, Kaipara) during discussion of the Estimates in the House of Representatives to-day. By that means, Mr. Coates suggested, in a comparatively few years the people would discover tun, bellbirds, wild pigeons and other native birds within the very gates of the cities.

Mr. Coates said that a Nature lover had proved that by planting ordinary bluegums it Was possible to enjoy the presence of tuis and wild pigeons within a few yards of one's horn*.
