SENT THROUGH POST.
INDECENT LETTER.
YOUNG MAN FINED.
Formerly a clerk in an Auckland solicitor's office, a young man named Colville Ashley Warne appeared on summons in the Po'ice Court to-day and pleaded guilty to a charge of posting an indecent letter to a man in Epsom. Detective-Sergeant Nalder said Warne was single, aged 22, and had for nearly five years been a clerk in a solicitor's office. While there he had a dispute with a girl employed in the same office. When out of employment he returned and caused a disturbance, so he was requested to leave. Warne later posted a letter, the subject of complaint, to the father of the girl. He had nothing against the man to whom the letter was addressed. He admitted the offence when interviewed by Detective Allsopp. Asked if he had anything to say. Warne replied, "I was chiselled out of a job." Air. C. R. Orr Walker. R.M., told him that was no excuse for sending such a shocking thing. "Fortunately a more serious charge is not brought against you," he told Warne. '"Fortunately it was not posted to the girl. You will be fined £•> and costs. You are getting off lightly with that." - -
