MOTOR CAR WRECKED.

DROP OF 60FT TO CREEK.

STARTED BY THE WIND.

Dropping fiOft sheer to the bed of the Tamaki Creek from the roadway in Bridge Street. Panmiire. yesterday afternoon, an unoccupied coupe, owned by Mr. R. Powell, of Panmiire. was almost completely wrecked. Mr. Powell parked the car with the pears in reverse, without having applied the brakes. A neighbour saw the car start off in erratic fashion and called the owner. The car gained speed as it raced down a 50 yards' slope to the end of the roadway and disappeared over the edge. In it« descent it crashed through a tree and broke an eight-inch branch and landed on the bed of the creek on its wheels. The bodywork was shattered and in parts wrenched from the chassis. Mr. Powell stated that there is no prospect of retrieving the car. and he would have to dismantle it at low tidei It was high tide at the time of the mishap otherwise the damage would have been greater. Recordings taken at the Hobsonville Air Base meteorological station yesterday allowed that there were gusts of -wind at the time which reached a velocity of 44 miles an hour, which is regarded as fairly high for the locality.
