RETURN OF GERMAN COLONIES.
The demand of Germany for the return of her colonies is, of course, quite natural, but it occurred to me when reading an interesting book, "M. Botha Treks," by Lieut.-Colonel H. F. Drew, that had the victory been on the side of our enemies in the Great War. Britain would have had little hope of afterwards receiving any consideration from the victors. This is shown bv the fact contained in the following statement by Lieut.-Colonel Drew: "When we captured a map in the German staff office at Octavinifontein Barracks, Southwest Africa, it appeared to show the world after the final victory. The whole of Africa was marked 'German Africa,' including the Union, with the exception of Swaziland and Zululand, which was marked 'Boer Republic.' Australia was marked 'Spanish Australice,' with a note 'to be handed bver to Spain as a reward for her friendly neutrality.' I ,not remember how the rest of the world was disposed of, but I do know that "the British Empire disappeared completely."' That is the country which now has the effrontery to a*k i for the return of the colonies. What dirt .Germanv return to France after the war of 11870? * OLD-TIMER.
