RIPE BANANAS CHEAP.
GOOSEBERRY PRICES LOWER. GLUT OF CAULIFLOWERS. With the larger supplier of gooseberries coming to hand at the City Markets value* have eased. Strawberries had a good demand, but quantities coming forward were Btill nmall owing to the plant*) needing rain. Orangra were in fair demand, but there was a very poor inquiry for New Zealand grapefruit and lemons. The sale for Californian grapes was fair. The demand for apples of good quality was moderate, but peaj* were slow of sale. Hothouse tomatoes were in fair request, values being a little lower. The price of ripe bananas fell to-day, values being well under the price for This is largely accounted for by big quantities ripening together, caused by the humid weather and rising temperatures. Vegetable Supplies Increase. Cabbage and cauliflower were a glut on the market to-day, selling at very low rates. Lettuce were in very heavy supply, with prices a little lower than last week. Good quantities of peas were available at recent rates, while carrots and parsnips were in fair supply, realising good prices. Supplies of hothouse cucumbers and marrows were heavier, with prices about the same.
