DECISIVE WIN.

FAILURE OF. SANDUSKY.

TROTS AT ADDINGTON.

KING'S PLAY MAKES AMENDS.

(By Telegraph.— Special to "Star.")

CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday

Two's Loose administered a decisive defeat to the rest of his age in the New Zealand Derby Stakes at Addington today. He was ruahed to the front from barrier rise and led all the way, clearing out from his opponents in the straight to win by five lengths from Perula, with the Auckland candidate Sandusky in third place. Refund began well and had an excellent passage, but failed badly over the last furlong. Sandusky was not fortunate in the running and added to his task by making a couple of skips and losing a little ground ard hia position when they had travelled three furlongs. 1 The winner was bred by his owner and educated and developed by M. B. Edwards, who entrusted the drive to J. Bryce, jun. Two's Loose carried £472 and £661, Perula £38 and £137, and Sandusky £1115 10/ and £784. Th* Trottors. Flotsam trotted one of the best races of his career when he came home two lengths clear of the field in the Sockburn Handicap. He is 9 sl horse whose ability was always recognised, but his career has been prejudiced by unsoundness. He was quickest to begin to-day and was never further back than third. Going down the back the last time he took the lead and easily retained it to the finish. The favourite bracket Golden Eagle and Great Admiral were second and third respectively two furlongs from home, but Great Admiral faded in the straight and Golden Eagle struggled home to gain third place. Waikato Prince went a good race. He was forced to cover a good deal of ground over the last half mile and should be soon led in a winner. Franz Derby was in the lead at the end of four furlongs, when she made a bad break and dropped out of the contest. Flotsam carried £196 10/ and £416, Waikato Prince £647 and £652, and the Golden Eagle-Great Admiral bracket £1051 10/ and £857 10/.

A Wonderful Finish. I There was a wonderful finish in the Metropolitan Handicap, no fewer than four horses passing the poet with only heads between them. The winner, Blair Athol, was successful in the two-mile race on the first dv. Blair Athol is a fullbrother to that good performer Silver de Oro, and in each of his races at the meeting ban shown excellent race qualities and promises to win further stake money. Elvo, who finished second, was one of the leaders throughout and it was only in the last stride that she went under to Blair Athol. Iraq has been racing well lately and his third points to a success in the near future. In finishing so close up in fourth place Renown's Beet did exceptionally well after losing valuable ground through breaking at the gtart. Harlequin was the leader for nine where Kewpie's Bond was also well placed, but both faded in the run home. On Parade and Casanova broke at the start. Blair Athol carried £749 10/ and £608. Elvo £79 10/ and £152 10/, and Iraq £200 10/ and £338. In a hot finish \ illage Guy got up in the laet stride to beat Supertax by a head in the Clarkson Handicap. Bonny Azure broke at the start, but gained her balance quickly and dashed to the front when a furlong and a half had been covered. She led into the straight, but went under to Village Guy and Supertax at the finish. Village Guy carried £923 10/ and £592 and Supertax £692 and £496 10/.
