"ENOUGH TO EAT."

PROBLEM OF NUTRITION. W.E.A. DISCUSSIOXS. "Enough to Eat" a British screen analysis of the great social problem of nutrition with practical advice on the selection of a properly balanced diet, was shown as the conclusion of the W.E.A. series on "Food, Farms and Health," last evening. The film is one in which Professor Julian Huxley describes the work of such experts as Sir John Orr, Professor Gowland Hopkins and Dr. G. C. McGonigle, who have investigated the connection between malnutrition and poverty, or lack of right knowledge. An interesting short film showing certain aspects of malnutrition in Xew Zealand, taken by Dr. G. B. Chapman, among the Maoris of the Far Xorth, was also shown. A discussion on the problems raised by these film? was led by Dr. Chapman, Dr. E. B. Gunson and Mr. G. H. Holford. It was stated that while proper statistics relating to Xew Zealand were not known, it was probable that a large proportion of people is the country had incomes which were not •sufficient to purchase the more important protective foods, which were, unfortunately, also the most expensive. On the other hand the position in England was very much worse and in Germany worse still. The chairman mentioned "that the Hon W. Nash had pointed out to a similar audience in Wellington- that as regards butter consumption per head England had only half the figure for New Zealand, and Germany only one-third. A reasonable increase in consumption by the English and the German people could therefore be of tremendous assistance to Xew Zealand.
