SLUMS AND MOUSEHOLE.—The painting reproduced by Hurst Balmford, of Mousehole, near Penzance, gives a vivid impression of the housing conditions of the hardy Cornish fisher folk, who have been protesting vigorously to the Minister of Health against a demolition order under slum clearance regulations of their picturesque dwellings. The Minister decided that all but one block could be saved from demolition. The picture is in the McKelvie collection in the Auckland Art Gallery.
