NEW AWARD MADE.

TILERS AND SLATERS. WAGES AND HOLIDAYS. Wages and hours, t lie principal matters referred to the Court have been settled in the new award for Auckland roof tilers and slaters, issued by the Arbitration Court. The award comes into operation on Monday, and remains in operation for a year. For journeymen, minimum rates of pay were fixed at 2/9 an hour while, on a job on which three or more workers are employed and not under the supervision of the employer or his travelling foremen, and the employer makes a workman responsible for the carrying out of the job, that worker is to be paid not less than lid an hour more. When a worker is employed stripping or relaying an old slate or tiled roof which has been laid over 10 years, he is to be paid 3d an hour in addition to the ordinary rate. Wage rates for improvers were fixed as under:—First year, 2/4; second year, 2/5; third year, 2/6; fourth year, 2/7. _ Holidays are to be observed on Xew Years Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Anzac Day, Labour Dav, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and the'birthday of the reigning sovereign. These days are to be paid for at ordinary time. Other matters In the award were fixed according to the recommendations agreed »-a Conciliation -Council.
