BOWLERS FOR SYDNEY.

SEVEN AUCKLAND RINKS. ONE FROM HAMILTON. CANDIDATES FOR EMPIRE GAMES. (By TRUNDLER.) The last rink from Auckland, to compete in the Australian bowling carnival in January, wag made up yesterday, and it is well up to the standard of the (six rinks arranged a month ago, as it comprises the following: — H. F. Rogers (Ngaruawahia), who is probably best known to Auckland bowlers an a very useful member of the New Zealand party who toured the world in 1928. D. G. Robertson (Gisborne), secretary of the local centre tor many years, and well known personally to quite a number of Auckland players. L. L. Macey (Kemuera), president of the club, after holding office as secretary. Walter Denison (Balmoral), five times club chanipiou and the present holder of the title. This makes seven rinks from Auckland, and the names of the players in the other 6ix rinks were published on October 7. The entries for the seven rinks were all sent to Dunedin yesterday by the secretary of the Auckland Centre, Mr. G. L. Gladding, and their well-wishers will be interested to know that they have also entered as fourteen pairs, and that 25 of the 28 are also competing in the singles. In addition to these the secretary of the South Auckland Centre, Mr. C. W. Wyeherley. writes that he has entered the Hamilton link: W. B. Pomero.v, J. S. Anchor. S. R. Hawken. G. B. Evans. These will also play as two pairs, and the whol'' four in the singles. It is a coincidence that this is exactly the same number as there were in 1931, when eight Xew Zealand rinks competed in the Australian carnival in Brisbane, but then only 23 players were from Auckland. the remaining nine being from Wellington and Christchurch. There may be some from southern centres this year, but so far there are no definite advices of any. The prospective competitors met in the Carlton pavilion last Monday evening, but no further names were mentioned beyond those decided at the previous meeting a month ago. However, even now there is time for others to decide on this trip, although entries officially closed yesterday, for the additional entries could still be sent by air mail to Dunedin up to next Friday, as the council executive must accept any received by next Monday week, November 15. As there was no business regarding teams last Monday the meeting discussed all the necessary details, and one of the most interesting was the decision that all will be dressed alike, including the players from Hamilton and Gisborne. Four of the competitors announced that they will leave for Sydney by various steamers during December, and the rest will leave by the Aoramgi cm January 10. British Team for New Zealand. The "Evening I'ost" (Wellington) published on Wednesday a long letter from London regarding the British team, but the only names beyond those published in this column last Saturday were E. Morris (Leicester), ('. T. Marcon (Bracknell, Herts) and -T. B. McAlpine (Glasgow). Apparently there are also 15 ladies in the party. The New Zealand itinerary arranged by the Government Tourist Department does not necessarily involve "a tour of the west coast of the North Island to Wellington, January 5 to 11," for the first option is to leave on January 5 for "a tour of northern peninsula and return to Auckland." Doubtless the council executive will give early advice as to which of these tours will complete their stay in New Zealand. It has been already mentioned that England will be represented in the Empire Games by T. C. Hills in the singles and by S. Jones and R. Weeks in the pairs. The latter will not visit New Zealand, as he leaves for Australia direct in December. Hills is a very noted performer. being right at the top, but it is surprising to learn that Jones is "one of the best known tournament players in England," for he is not even mentioned as an "international," whereas his namesake W. J. Jones represented England nine times between 1911 and 1936. The English rink in the Empire Games will be: J. G. Cuthbert (Wembley and London Scottish), E. Shuttle (Reading) and E. Tappenden (Hitchen, Herts), with a fourth to be chosen later. W. Clarke (Belfast) will represent Ireland in the singles, but there is not yet any advice regarding the other Belfast players in the party.

MANGERE TOURNEY.

Results of a full rink tournament, held on the. Mangere green on Tuesday, were :— (•utlatid (Onehunga) won section A, and Cottingham (Transport) and Hollier (Mnngere) tied in section B, Hollier winning the play-off. The final is to be played nt a later date.
