AJAX'S MILE.
THE RECORD EQUALLED. PRAIRIE MOON THE OAKS. THIRD DAY AT FLEMIXGTOX. MELBOURXE, Xovember 4. The weather was warm and there was a large attendance for the third day of tlie- Victoria Racing Club's Spring meeting at Flemington to-day. St. Fox, who was prominent throughout, won the Xovember Hurdles comfortably. He is owned and trained in Adelaide. Pandava led all the way in the Byron Moore Stakes and has now won twice in three starts. He is trained by the former Xew Zealander, G. Price. Ajax was in front throughout to win the Linlithgow Stakes in time equalling the Australian and Xew Zealand mile record. Young Idea beat King's Head for second in the last stride. Ajax is now entitled to be rated as the best middle distance performer seen in Australia in recent years. Sackville surprised by finishing strongly to win the Carnival Handicap, his first success. Pantoon ran a good race, but was beaten in the last few strides. Royal Order and Only Cine were never dangerous. Prairie Moon scored comfortably in the Oaks Stakes. Ortelle's Star ran gamely and Ena finished well after meeting interference near the mile post. Prairie Moon in the fourth filly to win the Wakeful Stakes-Oaks double in six years. She is trained by the former jockey, I'. Musdialli. Wilson, the rider of Prairie Moon, was suspended for a month for causing interference to En a. Young Crusader led all the way in the Veteran Stakes and beat the fast-finish-ing Prince Quox. Red Manfred was never dangerous. Gay Blonde broke down. Results: — NOVEMBER HURDLES of £700.
