CITY DRAINAGE.
NEW COMMISSION. PERSONNEL DECIDED. INQUIRY OPENS THIS MONTH. SCOPE OF INVESTIGATION. The personnel of the commission to inquire into a number of matters relating to the proposed Auckland Metropolitan Drainage District was announced by the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry, on his arrival in Auckland from Wellington to-day. The Minister said the commission would consist of the Hon. Sir Francis Frazer, Mr. J. W. Heenan, Under-Secre-tary of Internal Affairs, and Dr. M. H. Watt, Director-General of Health. It is understood that the inquiry will commence in Auckland in less than three weeks' time. Order of Reference. The Minister said the order of reference of the commission was as follows: (1) Whether it is desirable that the drainage district should be altered, and, if so, what would be suitable boundaries, having regard to the present and future requirements of the Auckland metropolitan drainage area or any extension of that area. (2) Whether it is desirable that the constitution of the Drainage Board should be altered, and, if so, in what manner. (3) Whether it is desirable that any alteration be made in the methods by or the local authorities from which the Drainage Board obtains its income and revenue and. if so. by what methods or from which local authorities. (4) Such other matters affecting or incidental to the foregoing as may arise in the course of the inquiry and as the commission may think it necessary and desirable to consider. The "Auckland metropolitan drainage area" referred to is the area intended to be benefited by the drainage scheme •on the southern portion of the district.
